Chipping - Hit Down To Chip Well
I often hear students refer to poor chip shots by saying, “I didn’t get under it.” The need to help the ball into the air is the cause of many problems. The ball will get airborne because of the loft on the clubface.

To be a successful chipper; take a narrow stance, let your weight favor your forward side, and learn to hit down on the ball. Encourage yourself to clip some grass or take a divot on the front side of the ball. This set up combined with a hitting down motion will make for better contact.
The distance the ball will travel is controlled by
1) Solid contact
2) Length of motion
3) Club selection
